Other announcements:

Decorum

We could all use a refresher course in the decorum of the Mount Pleasant Band as it relates to football games and performances.

#1- Call time for all games will be 5:00 PM on the practice field. If you will have difficulty getting here on time, please do not leave campus after school.

#2- We have worked very diligently on our attention position, and on our horn arc visuals. This is extremely important now that a thousand eyes will be on us.

#3- The uniform, be it the Class A or the Class B, is to be worn correctly and respected.

#4- The band section of the stadium is for the band only. Your boyfriends and/or girlfriends can live without you for three or so hours. If they can’t, then you’re better off without them.

#5- Sections are to stay intact. No roaming around in the stands or into other sections.

#6- No trading horns or drums.

#7- No eating or drinking in uniform (water is the exception).

#8- No PDA in uniform.

#9- We do not wear jewelry while in uniform. Do yourself a favor and leave it at home.

#10- This is the most important part of all: at football games and contests we represent our school and community, and we will do it well. We have many hats to wear in regards to our duties to this ensemble, to the athletic program, and to the school. Never let your guard down.

Tardy Sweep

The enforcement of the tardy sweep policy will begin today. If you do not make it to class on time, you will be serving detention in the office with Mrs. Webb. Get moving!

Candy For Sale

If you want some World’s Finest Chocolate to sell, Mr. Tulbert still has some. See him after school to check out a box.

Parking

Since we have an hour+ between the end of school and the beginning of rehearsal, I know that many of you have taken to leaving campus and returning to park in the gravel lot next to the dumpsters/band trailer. You may continue to leave campus if you like, but you must return your cars to the student parking lot when you return. You may not park in the gravel lot next to the dumpsters/band trailer. You may not park along the side of the road at the back of the bus parking lot. You may not park in the loading dock. You may not park in the bus lot. You must return your car to the student parking lot. This issue has caused me a lot of pain and suffering over the past year, and I do not plan to endure it any further. You have been asked to follow these instructions. If you do not, your consequence will be at the discretion of the administration. Thanks.

The Timpani Cabinets

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the timpani cabinets. They are not to be climbed on or in, nor are they to be used as your coaster. The timpani are to be housed inside of the cabinets and the battery equipment will be kept on top of the cabinets. Period.

Health Forms

Mr. Tulber still needs health forms from the following students: Courtney C., Josh C., Devin H., Alicia J., Kamerynn K., Hannah P., Rachel P., Madelyn P., Anne Marie T., & Jason T.. ASAP!!!

Feed the Band Schedule:

This is an important service we provide for our kids to make sure everyone gets at least one good meal before performances. Folks who sign up generally come up with a plan, share funds and feed the band for either games or competitions. This year Glenda Earnhardt will be handling the feed the band coordination. Email website@mpband.org for her direct contact info.

Here is the schedule for Feed the Band, so far:

9/3/10 - The following signed up to feed the band: Margaret Furr, Kima Kluttz, Nikki Little, Stephanie Blackburn, Dan Bergeron, Brenda Stewart, Christie Taylor, and Elizabeth Webb.

9/10/10: Stephanie Goldsmith & B J Rogers. We need at least 5 more people to assist with this date. We have secured a prize of $7 per large pizza from Pizza Hut that we will use for this week.

9/17/10: We do not have anyone signed up and we need to feed the band after practice at 6:30pm.

9/24/10: Connie Barrier has secured Wayside to feed the band on this date. The following folks signed up to assist with this date: Suzanne Furr, Chris Harrison, Gina Sullivan, Carrie Black and Julie Whitley.

10/1/10: Susan Fearrington, Angela Sowell, Kathy Seaman.

October dates have very few people who have signed up. We need volunteers for October for the Friday night games and Saturday competitions. If you can help, please contact Glenda Earnhardt at website@mpband.org and we'll forward her contact info right away.

We have two more restaurants who have indicated they will help us: Cici's Pizza and Buddies. Glenda is working with them to determine the dates and will probably use them in October. We're also, getting quotes from a couple other places. If you know of someplace that is willing to feed the band, please let Glenda know.

Practice Records

It is no secret that all band students are required to practice 100 minutes per week at home outside of rehearsal. This adds up to about 14 minutes per day, bare minimum. You owe it to yourself and your ensemble to take the time each day to work on trouble areas and to reinforce technique. Professionals practice for hours each day. I think we can budget 14 minutes. Practice records are due every other Monday. The dates are marked on the calendar on the back of this newsletter. You may print your own copies, or use the double sided copies that I have provided on the table next to the band office door.
