Good Afternoon All,
I hope this e-mail finds you doing well. I wanted to push out the latest information that I have in concern of sports and marching band.
As many of you had been tracking, last week, Cabarrus County Schools made the move to continue to push the start of athletics and band rehearsals. This decision was made based off of Governor Cooper’s announcement of extending the “Phase II” protocol (https://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/site/default.aspx?PageType=3&DomainID=4&ModuleInstanceID=41402&ViewID=6446EE88-D30C-497E-9316-3F8874B3E108&RenderLoc=0&FlexDataID=401411&PageID=1). As of today, it has been decided by the NCHSAA that a change to the athletic calendar will occur. The first sports to be allowed to play will be Cross Country and Volleyball (slotted to start in November). The football season will not take place until February. You can go to https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/nchsaa-expected-make-announcement-fall-sports/CXX3BXB4GRDNJEBJECSMQFECZA/ to view an article that has been posted about this change.
With this being said, we will hold off all after school rehearsals or weekend camps until we are given the blue light to commence. This does not mean you, the students, can’t get together to rehearse. This just means we (the staff and I) cannot hold any official rehearsals. I am hoping we can start these very soon. As stated in my last e-mail, the MP Band will thrive and evolve its offerings to serve our students and community. We will get creative in our offerings and explore new avenues.
In the coming days we will begin to share much more detail to the adjustments made to the season and share exciting new opportunities for our students and our parents. These adjustments will include:
- When will we be able to hold official rehearsals?
- What will those rehearsals look like?
- Marching band fees (refunds, etc.)
- Performance opportunities (football games (during the new timeframe designated by the NCHSAA), winterguard, WGI winds / winter percussion (?), community performances, etc.)
- Continued student leadership training
For now, enjoy the last bit of you summer vacation. Enjoy time with your families. All the teachers here at Mount Pleasant HS are working diligently to figure out how to offer you the best possible education we can in the situation we are in. Please be patient and kind. I look forward to the day we can actually get together (face to face) and make music, spin flags, and just enjoy each other’s company!
