MPMB Newsletter for the week of February 18th, 2019

APOLOGIZE FOR THE RADIO SILENCE

I hope this newsletter finds you all doing well.  The past couple months have been very hectic and a lot has gone on.  Due to this, communication on my end has not been where I would like it to be.  I greatly apologize for that.  That being said, there are a lot of items that need to be communicated out.

MPMS WELCOMES MR. FISHER AS THE NEW DIRECTOR OF BANDS:  Mr. Fisher officially starts his tenure at MPMS on 18 February.  I know that I am super excited to have him there in this capacity and I believe many of you are, as well.  With the transition, a lot of attention is going to be placed on the retention, recruitment, and educational well-being of the middle school side of our program. This will have to be our #1 priority. If we do not emphasize this now, the high school program ultimately suffers.  I have communicated this to my students.  We are going to need to provide a “full on assault” to ensure the students at the middle school are being served.  We are also going to have to be very intentional in our planning for 6thgrade band recruitment and for retention of 8thgrade students coming into the high school.  With Mr. Fisher there, he and I will create a battle plan that will create instant success for the current middle school students and will help in our goal to grow this program.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEMESTER:  With all of the transitions that have been going on, I have had to take a step back before we start making set plans.  I am currently updating our semester calendar to include all rehearsals, leadership training, concerts, etc. for the remainder of the year.  I am hoping to have calendar that is 90% set by the end of February.  There will be a few events that pop up (such as 6thGrade Band Recruitment, etc.) that we will need to throw into the calendar, but until Mr. Fisher is firmly in place at the middle school, we will have to wait to put these items on the calendar.  The calendar has enough on it for the time being to at least plan ourselves accordingly for the next month.  Remaining events will be added as we can get the dates set for those.

WINTERGUARD: The MP Winterguard are well into their competitive season.  They have been doing a FATASTIC job representing our program.  They placed 2ndin their class at Clover HS last weekend.  They have been working hard and I am looking forward to seeing how they progress through the rest of the season.  Their next contest is on 23 February 2019 at Mooresville HS. It would be AWESOME to see lots of band students and band parents come out to show their support since this show is so close.  They perform at 3:28 p.m. with awards being at 5:20 p.m. for all winterguard groups. COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUSION AND REVELATION MEMBERS PERFORMING:  We also have several members from our program performing with these two independent groups.  They will also be at Mooresville for the contest next weekend. They perform that night (Fusion @ 8:47 p.m. and Revelation @ 9:05 p.m.).  Go and support our MP Band members who are performing this weekend!!!

CONGRATULATIONS:  There are many folks we need to congratulate this month for the great things that they have done:

  • Michael Wax – Made Music City Drum and Bugle Corps and will be touring with them this summer.
  • Jackson Jones, Zach Norman, Jacob Chase – Made the SCDBA All District Band.
  • McKenzie Maynard, Lauren Lentz, Izzy Lyons, Chase Styers, Avery Kendall, Riley Leonard, Jackson Jones, Lily Cagle, Nikaya Robinson, Dana Furr, Wyatt Craig, and Sarah Al-Zaid – Were nominated for the Cabarrus All County HS Bands.
  • Kaitlynne Cruz, Angel Fisher, Sydney Warren, Zach Norman, Caleb Gore, Jacob Chase, Trey Hall, and Je’nese Davis – Were nominated for the Cabarrus All County MS Band.

All of these students have represented our program well.  Please congratulate these fine musicians on their accomplishments.

BAND BOOSTERS PARENT MEETING (IMPORTANT):  The next band boosters parent meeting is slotted for 7 March 2019 at 6:30 p.m.  This is going to be a VERY IMPORTANT meeting that you do not want to miss.  Please make plans to be in attendance.  The board will meet prior to this meeting at 5:30 p.m.

BAND AWARDS BANQUET:  Start making plans for this now.  Date is 7 May 2019 (Tuesday).

ARENA WORK OPPORTUNITIES:  Statements have gone out for students who owe money for band fees.  Many opportunities for arena work have gone out through Facebook.  If you owe money or if you are looking to build up your individual band account, these arena work opportunities are a great chance to do so.  With that being stated, there are 3 spots open on 7 and 8 April for the Spartan Race (5:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.).  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Lori Good at mpbandwork@gmail.com for information.

MARCHING BAND MEMBER PHOTOS:  We are still planning to do this.  Unfortunately, this had to be put on the back burner for a variety of reasons.  As soon as we get this completely worked out, we will let you know when this will take place.
