MP Band – Information for the week of 6 – 10 April 2020

Good Afternoon All,


Hope you are doing all.  Please read this e-mail in its entirety.


Parents-please make sure your children are checking their e-mails (school e-mails and e-mails associated with Cut Time and Smart Music) and their Cut Time accounts on a regular basis.  Your children are going to be sent lots of information by all of their teachers.  It is IMPERATIVE that they take some sort of onus in their own educational journey while we are experiencing these school closures.  Please stay on top of your children.  Force them to talk to you about what it is they are doing.  Make them show you what they are doing.  With the way they are having to do assignments, gather information, etc. while we are in our period of school closures, it cannot be solely on the teacher.  If there is lack of information that a student is given that is making it difficult for a student to accomplish a particular task, students need to contact their teachers to gain clarification.  This is great training for them for college, entering the workforce, etc.

Microsoft Teams:  Once we are allowed to get back into doing live meetings, we will be doing at least two live meetings per week.  You have already been invited to attend these meetings through Microsoft Teams.  It should send a notification to your school e-mail address when these invites occur.  It will also show up in your calendars in your school e-mail.  In order to access Microsoft Teams, you need to know your login information for your school e-mail accounts, etc.  Please go to this website to learn how to do this: .


Class Meetings:  For now, live meetings are postponed.  I have scheduled meetings up through May 14th, but these will be postponed until we are given the nod.  I will be keeping them scheduled so that when we are given permission to proceed, we can roll right into the schedule I have set.  I will be having meetings on the following days and times:


  • 1st Block
    • Meeting 1:  Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m.
    • Meeting 2:  Thursdays at 9:00 a.m.
  • 2nd Block
    • Meeting 1:  Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.
    • Meeting 2:  Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.


Until we are given the permission, on the days stated, please send me a message on our Microsoft Teams classroom chat board letting me know how you are doing.  This will take you no more than five minutes to do so.


Assignments for the Week of 6 – 10 April:  I have posted assignments in Cut Time for you to begin.  There is some brand new material for you to do.  This week, you will have a theory component and a few playing components.  Follow the instructions of the assignment.  To access Cut Time and figure out how to access those assignments, please watch this video:


Once you completed an assignment, please go into Cut Time and certify you have completed the assignment.  To do so, watch this video:


If you do not have the required materials to complete a particular assignment, please let me know and I will make adjustments for you.  With this new way of learning, and with the situation being what it is, we will all have to have a level of leniency and understanding.


SITUATION AS IS:  Our Governor has just issued an order for us to be closed through May 15th .  Your teachers are working hard to figure out ways to administer some sort of online virtual learning to administer to you.  This is not easy and may come with some frustration.  I ask you all to work through these items your teachers prepare for you.  Do your very best.


For the Band:  Up to the point we left school, all band students had weekly assignments to complete in SmartMusic.  Unless you have assignments you did not complete prior to the school closure, I have stopped posting assignments until approximately 30 March.  Starting 30 March, I will continue to post items on SmartMusic and in Cut Time for us to do.  It is imperative that you remember your login information for both of those systems.  If you do not, please let me know ASAP so I can help you.  There will be a few things posted every few days for us to try to complete.


It is highly likely that I will be activated by the National Guard.  With this being said, I will do as much communicating as I can through e-mail as I can.  There may be periods of “radio silence.”  Please know this is not me ignoring you.  When I get a free moment of time, I will try to communicate to you.


For Future Band Functions:  At this present moment of time, there are lots of things up in the air.  Banquet will have to be rescheduled.  Pre-Season Marching Band events will need to be looked at.  While we are in this hiatus, I am still doing lots of planning and work for the next year.  Please be patient.  We will be able to get back to normal if everyone is diligent and follow all precautions that have been set forth for your safety.


At this point of time, you and your family’s health are of the most importance.  Please follow the guidelines that have been placed in order to curb this situation.  If you follow these guidelines, the amount of time that we are dealing with this will shorten.
